What is the Millennium Villages Project?

The Millennium Villages Project seeks to meet the multi-faceted problem of poverty with a multi-faceted answer that meets goals relating to education, health, agriculture, community, and beyond. A collaborative effort of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and the United Nations Development Program, the Millennium Villages Project seeks to bring a series of populations to the goals and standards laid out in the Millennium Development Goals while working closely with local governments. With the motto of, “In order to make lasting change in any one sphere of development, we must improve them all,” the Millennium Development Villages project also seeks to address other infrastructure issues such as roads and communication networks, avoiding the long-term pitfalls of only fixing the most obvious problems. We went to the Bonsaaso village cluster in Ghana to see the plan in action and talk to the people living there about how their lives had changed.
